Display faults

iPhone black screen — alive underneath, nothing on the glass.

A phone that rings, vibrates and makes sounds while the screen stays black is not dead — the display path has failed. That could be the screen itself, the backlight circuit, or the board's display output. Fitting a new screen without testing answers only one of those three.

£35
Fixed diagnostic charge

The fixed £35 diagnostic covers the assessment described below and both-way UK tracked shipping. If you approve the repair quote, the fee is deducted from that quote. No repair work starts without your approval.

Black-screen behaviours we see

The details separate a screen swap from a board repair:

  • Phone sounds and vibrations work but the display stays black
  • A very faint image visible under bright light — backlight circuit territory
  • Display cut out after a drop, or after a screen replacement elsewhere
  • Intermittent display: works after a restart, fails again later

Three places a display fault can live

📱

The display panel

Cracked or failed panels are the simple case. Diagnosis confirms the panel is the fault before you pay for one — not after.

💡

The backlight circuit

A faint ghost image with no illumination usually means backlight driver or filter failure on the board — a screen replacement will not fix it.

Board-level image path

Drop damage can crack connector joints or display IC solder. A new screen shows the same black nothing because the board never sends it an image.

🔧

Previous repair damage

Screens replaced with the battery connected can blow backlight filters at that moment. If your black screen followed a repair elsewhere, say so at booking.

What the £35 assessment actually does.

  • Known-good display testing to split panel faults from board faults immediately
  • Backlight circuit measurement — drivers, filters and the boost line
  • Connector and display IC inspection under magnification for drop damage
  • A written finding with the true fix — panel, board repair, or both — priced before you approve

The findings arrive in writing with the quote. You approve, decline or extend — the fee terms are explained in the FAQ.

Describe the fault once — then approve the next step.

The booking form records what happened so the bench sees the same details. Completed repairs carry a 90-day warranty on the specific fault repaired.

iPhone no display FAQ

The phone still rings — is my data safe?

A phone that still rings is encouraging because it suggests the device is running behind the failed display, but it does not prove that every file is safe. Diagnosis confirms whether the fault is limited to the display path and whether normal access or a recovery route is appropriate.

I already had the screen replaced and it is still black. Why?

Because the fault is behind the screen — backlight circuit or display output on the board. This is one of the most common cases we receive after a parts-only repair elsewhere.

Is a faint image with no backlight cheaper to fix than no image at all?

Often, yes. A backlight-only fault is typically a small, well-understood board repair. No image at all has more candidate causes, which is exactly what the diagnostic isolates.
