iPad 10.2-inch not charging or showing a low-battery screen?

The 7th, 8th and 9th generations share a 10.2-inch size, but the exact generation still matters to the repair. We identify the iPad before assessing its connection, battery and board charging path.

£35
Fixed diagnostic charge

The fixed £35 diagnostic covers the assessment described below and both-way UK tracked shipping. If you approve the repair quote, the fee is deducted from that quote. No repair work starts without your approval.

The screen size does not identify the generation

These iPads use Lightning, while other recent iPads use USB-C. Tell us the generation or A-number, whether the connector feels loose and whether the battery symbol appears. A loose connection suggests an area to inspect; a firm connection with no charge needs a wider assessment.

Check your model: Examples are A2197 (7th generation Wi-Fi), A2270 (8th generation Wi-Fi) and A2602 (9th generation Wi-Fi). Cellular versions have other codes. Use Apple's identification reference below rather than screen size alone.

For the wider fault pattern, read the iPad board and charging assessment. If the files matter more than returning the device to daily use, read about data recovery and select Data recovery when booking.

Which charging behaviour do you see?

Record what happens with one safe, known working charging setup:

  • The low-battery screen returns but the iPad does not finish starting
  • Charging stops when the cable moves
  • A charging message appears but the battery loses charge during use

What we check on your iPad 10.2-inch (7th–9th generation).

  • Inspect the Lightning socket, its connections and signs of wear or contamination
  • Compare the input supply with battery response and start-up behaviour
  • Assess connector work and board charging faults before selecting a repair

We’ll explain what we find in writing and quote for the work we can offer. Your options depend on the device’s condition, our test results and the parts available.

Why an iPad can say it is connected without gaining useful charge

The supply may be unsuitable, the connection may be unreliable or the battery and charging circuitry may need attention. A computer USB connection is not a definitive charging test. Tell us which equipment was used and whether the iPad charges differently when idle. Avoid holding a cable under pressure to keep it connected.

Port work needs inspection of the surrounding area

If a charging connector is the established fault, its attachment and the surrounding board still need checking. Previous attempts can damage pads or nearby connections. Include that history so the quote reflects the actual repair, rather than assuming every no-charge iPad needs a straightforward socket replacement.

Protect the device and the data while deciding.

  • Record the A-number from the back if Settings cannot be opened
  • Do not probe the Lightning socket with metal tools
  • Contact support before posting if the screen has lifted or the battery is damaged

Tell us what’s happening with your iPad 10.2-inch (7th–9th generation). We’ll assess it at our Tyneside lab for £35 and explain your options before you decide on repair.

One assessment route, generation-specific repair decisions

These generations are grouped because the customer charging questions overlap. We still identify the individual iPad before ordering parts or proposing work. A charging repair does not automatically resolve unrelated touch, display or battery problems.

iPad 10.2-inch (7th–9th generation) not charging FAQ

Is every 10.2-inch iPad a 9th generation?

No. The 7th, 8th and 9th generations use this screen size. Check the generation in Settings or use the A-number on the back.

Should I keep moving the cable until it charges?

Avoid forcing or holding the connector under strain. Describe the intermittent contact so the socket and its connections can be inspected.

Can you assess a port that has already been replaced?

Yes. Explain whether replacement helped at all and include the previous repair history. We assess the connections and the wider charging path.
